Babe Shadow:
Delightfuly jangly and tenderly underplayed, London's Babe Shadow delicately compose beautifuly heart string strummed magic. In a time where 'authentic' folk music is emerging from every urban setting on every grimy London street, this quartet muddle with the mould excellently to create sounds that can only be described as Glam-Folk.
Hints of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, with lashings of Mumford and Sons and Noah and The Whale combine to result in something truly glorious!
"While the music may not fit the hustle and bustle of the city, they are not necessarily out of place either, especially with the advent of such new folk stars like Johnny Flynn, Mumford and Sons, and Noah & the Whale. While this may be a lazy comparison to make, it's a fine place to start, although the band will likely show us that they don't quite fit in anywhere" - Exitfare
Stairs To Korea:
From North London via Reykjavik, Will Vaughan makes budget anthems through slipshod use of modern technology and a dinky white guitar. It's wrongpop Heaven - right here on Earth.
Funky, quirky and truly unique - this is yet, more perfection dealt out through the medium of music. Absolutely fascinating.
Canvey Island:
Canvey Island is a dreary seaside town overlooked by oil refineries on the Essex coast. It is also the stage name of solo artist Chris Farrance. A unique performer, Chris loops vocals (likened to Thom Yorke and Elliott Smith), guitar (lead, rhythm and percussion parts), drums, E-bow, xylophone, and anything else at hand. He builds layer upon layer throughout his songs, like the UK's answer to Owen Pallett, he gives the sonic illusion of an entire band.
Truly mesmerising.
Henry Brill and The Electric Co.:
Henry, the self confessed ‘best kept secret in Folk’ has been making waves into the London Folk scene recently. Quite clearly the secret is out, and it’s very impressive, Henry whisks you back to the American Folk scene of the 60’s, and instantly reminds you of an early Neil Young or Bob Dylan with his Americana cum gruff country rock. This is mightily impressive stuff.
