Monday Football Thread (Diving Edition)
I scored 79 points on Fantasy Football things week thanks to Torres, Arshavin, Young, Cole, Agbonlahor, Sorensen and Lennon, cheers boys!
Anyway, in the Premier League...
Aston Villa and Everton both get much needed wins yesterday that should see them relax a little going into the international break. Man City win away to Pompey to keep their 100% record intact but have Nugent to thank after he missed a sitter. Liverpool take full advantage of the Davis sending off to pickup a much needed 3 points away to Bolton and Chelsea thump Burnley 3-0 as I had expected, great goal by Cole. Stoke beat Sunderland and Lennon win it for Spurs 5 minutes into added time. Wolves get a point at home to Hull.
Arsenal somehow manage to hand Man United victory at Old Trafford after being in complete control. Rooney was going down before there was contact and there was no way he was keeping that ball in anyway, he booted it 20 yards ahead of himself. Almunia is an idiot for conceding that penalty. And WTF was Diaby doing with the header? Absolutely dreadful attempt at...well...whatever he tried to do. Eboue got booked for diving, it really was a pathetic attempt at cheating.
Up in Scotland...
We beat a good Hibs side 1-0 at Easter Road, great result that. McGeady gets a second yellow for diving. Rightly deserved. Craig Burley lambastes him for it, blames the influx of "foreigners" to the British game and says we should expect better of "British players" - he's Irish you twat.
Rangers pummel Hamilton 4-1 at Ibrox which is no great surprise a they are the pishest team in the league this season. Hearts ruin my accumulator but conceding an equaliser 3 minutes into injury time to the newcomers. Aberdeen and Motherwell bore us all to death. Dundee United (2-1) and St. Mirren (1-2) beat Falkirk and Killie. Ex-celt youth Finnbogason scores for Falkirk. Danny Cadimarteri is joint top goal scorer of the SPL with 3 goals.
There's loads of gossip today as well, here's the ebst stuff:
David James to Spurs (maybe), Sunderland (doubt it) or Stoke (doubt it).
Kranjcar to Spurs (hopefully).
Chamakh & Vieira to Arsenal. ???
Zigic to West Ham (maybe) or Wolves (no chance).
Upson or Collins to Villa.
M. Petrov to Stoke. Really? Surely not.
£9m & Frazier Campbell for Turner? Doubt it.
Shorey to Pompey?
Everything else is boring.
Not a damn thing happening up in Scotland on the transfer front though Lo-Pan reckons Boydichenko is for the off possibly along with McGregor.
On the International front...
Capello overlooks Owen again. Why is this even news? When he scores in 3 games on the trot and starts for Man Utd then Capello will rightly take a look at him, until then the likes of Bent and Agbonlahor should be ahead of him in the queue.
We've got Macedonia and then the Netherlands. We'll take 4 points from those two games and it won't be enough. McFadden will start and Kevin Kyle will score. Burley will get his marching orders and we'll all breathe a sigh of relief and I'll plan for a holiday to Poland and Ukraine in 2012.
Didn't get a chance to talk about it last week so here's some stuff on the Europa League draw...
Celtic get Hamburg, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Rapid Vienna. Not an easy draw by any means but we should qualify - 10 points should see us through (3 homes, 1 point away). Celtic fans over the age of 35 and ex players are already baying for Venetian blood, a cheat of yesteryear is their current boss.
Everton get Benfica, BATE and AEK Athens. Would be surprised to see them finish top on 18 points.
Fulham get Roma, Basel and CSKA Sofia. Some tricky away ties but they should manage to finish second.
Some really tough teams in the competition which will be added to with the 3rd placed Champions League sides, should be a good first year.
Someone else can roundup the European stuff as I've no idea what went on at the weekend though I'm told Real struggled and Diego scored a screamer for Juve.
What did I miss?
Cheers.
