I'm all for equality and all but isn't this basically lying for the sake of appearing "right thinking"?

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely believe that same-sex couple should have the same rights as heterosexual couples and believe two women, or two men, could raise a child as well as a mixed-sex couple can. But I also believe a birth certificate should be an accurate document of a child's biological origin. Surely claiming on a birth certificate a child has two mothers, no matter how nice an idea in theory, basically turns the birth certificate into an inaccurate, and indeed biologically-impossible, document displaying a biological origin that did not and could not happen. And surely it's wrong for a legal document, which for some children will be massively important in years to come if they do want/need* to trace their biological roots, to be officially falsified is somehow very wrong?
This might be a bit heavy for 9 o'clock on a bank holiday Monday. I might bump it in work tomorrow.
