A Wednesday F1 thread (may contain incoherent anger)
BMW about to announce they're pulling out of F1. Which leaves Nick in a really awful situation. Despite having beaten Kubica this year (and 2007), he doesn't generate enough media interest etc and most other teams will probably ignore him.
Williams probably want someone to keep their engine manufacturers happy, and I get the feeling Nick's time there in 05 wasn't the smoothest despite getting very good results. Red Bull seem to want Toro Rosso for the young drivers in their program. I just don't see him going to Toyota or Renault, and their futures are in doubt anyhow. I think he'd do really well at Brawn, but I it's unlikely he'd get it. For sure he won't be at McLaren or Ferrari. All the new teams have really strong links to sponsors / countries, which they'll probably value over ability and experience...
If this stupid announcement means that Nick has to leave F1 without a win, then, well, I might send a very angry letter to Munich or something. It's so unfair. There's still hope of him getting a drive, I'm sure he's known about this for a while, but whatever he's done in the past he's always been overlooked. I just don't see why that's going to change now. Urgh.
And aside from that, BMW leaving would likely lead to Toyota leaving, and quite possibly Renault. I know these kind of teams have come and gone from F1 for a long time, but it's still kind of depressing. And would lead to even more driver competition (though for sure I think Nick is better than all save Alonso).
