psycho by ole hitchcock.....anyone a fan?.... someone tell me why it's good.
watched it properly for the first time the other day
i mean....i can objectively appreciate it's brilliance.........the score....bumping your lead so early....the amazing performance by perkins.....introducing a horror theme that deviated from the usual blobs from space b-movie schtick into something more real.....the bundles of psychological blah blah etc etc....
but....aside from appreciating all of that.....i struggle to believe that anyone our age could really enjoy it for what it is, in our milieu, and think it was a good film....surely no one could see it as anymore than a curio, a museum piece, an important mark in movie history.....perkins is sublime but that's where it ends...
the sub-plot is plodding and dull....weak dialogue......you'd get film historians go....'weeeelll...the amazing thing is...is if you actually show youngsters the film now...the fear and horror seeps through and transcends everything to remain terrifying in the modern age'.........no. no it doesn't. no our fault or theirs but it doesn't, and it absolutely can't....the final third of the film is so pedestrain you're just waiting for it to wrap up.
it's the emporers old clothes.
the best bit of the film was that look the sheriffs wife gives janet leighs sis when she mentions the marital bed....comedy gold.
i'd argue all day long that the blair witch project is a far, far superior horror film.
