Baggsy, The Mourning Thread
This thread is dedicated to the memory of late great Trevor Baggs, or as his close friends, mediocre acquaintances and myself would call him, Baggsy. The first time I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Baggsy was in 1987 whilst on holiday in Buxton upon Twissick. Baggsy was at the time touring the nations Beaties toy shops signing copies of now immortalised replica micromachine range. I was shopping for a replacement Massey Ferguson brand toy bailer, not the round ones, oh no, I was always an oblonged purist. Baggsy always said he respected stance despite the obvious rollability of round bails, and the fact that the toy oblonged ones were responsible for the passing of many an inappropriate vacuum cleaner (never a Henry – ed.). Months later in 1999 I bumped into him once more, this time in Actwald under Lyme on Sea. This time it was I who was pleased to see him, as I felt the need to appolgise for never actually persuading my parents to purchase one of his failed range of micromachine replicas, in fact at many a time during the early 90s I’d been on record (BBC, ITV, Meridian, Astrosat, Granada, but never Sky, oh no, not until Centre Parcs in 1991 did I ever watch a Sky) claiming that Baggys’ micromachines were mildly if not quite inferior to the authentic and yet rather overpriced non-Baggsy brands. Baggsy took it in his stride, as Baggsy always did until his passing, which like the end of this post was untimely.
