so staggeringly unoriginal they almost transcend their run of the mill stink and reach higher status as symbols of everything wrong with cinema..hollywood... today...
the unoriginality is almost balletic....if you ride past the initial waves of ennui...that early stupor you're instantly locked into......get past that...embrace the fact that nothing original, nothing of note will happen in these films to the extent where just thinking about them instantly gives you that curious post-wank emptiness/dissapointment/regret.....well......get passed that stage and then you're looking through the swirling grey....you're in the eye of the storm, the centre of the cyclone and everything is still and calm....you begin to admire the films ability to have been made at all...you start to snuggle in the patchwork plots until everything made with honesty and truth and beauty and passion starts to look awkward and alien and fussy....the characters..dialogue...settings...plot...action sequences....they've all become old friends...you're jack at the bar...'i've always liked you lloyd'....and there's an entire party waiting just for you...all there for you...all to tug your mind away from anything real and submerge yourself in a bourbon soaked waltz that last till the end of time...smiles, smiles, smiles...i've danced with that same woman for a thousand years....'wish you were here'...smiles smiles smiles...
i'm gonna go put modern times on for a 24 hour loop.
...and i'm taking denzel's black away from him, he doesn't deserve it anymore.
