Is there a case for a cull of certain old people?
What with us living in a rapidly aging society, coupled with the strain they put on the economy, is there a legitimate case for killing old people? I guess you could have a few criteria, such as for instance the individual being:
- Disabled / immobile
- Mentally incapacitated / significant loss of memory
- Probably some other stuff I can't think of right now
For example: My gran has been sat in a care home for coming up for around 18 years now pissing herself in the same chair every day, and she hasn't recognised anyone in the family for well over 10 of those years. She is sat there waiting to die, and it's costing the state a considerable amount of money. There must be thousands upon thousands of cases just like hers. She would be an example of someone who could be killed quite humanely and it would put her out of her misery, us out of our misery of seeing her in that condition, and would take a small strain off the healthcare system.
I know it sounds fairly fascist on the face of it, but personally I'd hate to be in that situation as an old person, waiting to die but stuck there because my body won't pack in. There are humane methods of doing it. I'm not saying every single old person over a certain age should immediately be killed, but some relatively ruthless criteria could be applied for the good of all involved.
