I've been invited to a work colleague's wedding.
Not just the evening reception, but the whole ceremony gubbins too. And his stag do of paint-balling in the afternoon and drinking in the evening. And I have no idea why.
I get on well enough with the guy and I’ve been working with him for about a year and a half, or something like that, and it’s quite nice that I’ve been invited… But it’s not like we’re THE BEST OF FRIENDS. He invited everyone in our office, but only me and another woman (who he’s known for years and years and who is going out with one of his best friends) to the ceremony. Whenever we talk in work, it’s always about the same kind of thing: bit of politics, bit of history. I’ve never even associated with him outside work. He’s old as well, like 55, and this is his third marriage, so it’s not like it’s a big event, really. How long will this last before he cheats on the new wife?
It’s just all very odd and a bit tricky to get out of. I would’ve gone to the evening reception, if I was invited to that, but I’m not so sure about the whole thing. He gave me the invitation a week ago, so I don’t know if it’s too late to suddenly say “Oh, turns out I can’t make it for the ceremony”. I was only invited to the stag thing today and didn’t say yes but “I’ll check my diary and see if I can make that”, so that I can think of an excuse… i.e. Get you lot to give me a suitable excuse.
Anyone got an overly familiar workmate? Anyone been to a workmate’s wedding?
Shit, I need a date to this thing too. Anyone want to be my date?
