Yesiamaducks Glastonbury review
It was a fantastic weekend, the odd bit of rain wasnt enough to make it a chore to get from one side to the other or boogey, the atmos was there and despite the 6 Hour traffic jam, it has to be said I enjoyed it immensley :D
I'm gonna ignore the Thursday line up, I saw a couple of things but, shame on me, didnt really take notice. I saw the Mandables however who were
fantastic! Great fun :D
Friday:
Bjorn Again 11:00 (Pyramid Stage)
A very posetive, entertaining and alright enjoyable performance of wall to
wall Abba hits. The crowd was sining in sunshine and I loved every moment,
it's never going to be a life changing or memorable experiance but it was
certainly enjoyable, even of the keyboardists on stage antics and sweedish
rap alone :D 7/10
Regina Spektor 13.40 [Pyramid Stage]
I have to say, I was expecting lovely Regina to not at all be able to take
on the Pyramid Stage, but she did a fantastic job. Her voice was AMAZING,
the sincerity of her facial expresions made me indear to her a lot, I mean
a lot, she genuinly looked happy to be there and pulled out a solid set
and gave off a better then expected performance. 8/10
The Maccabees 14.30 [Other Stage]
Solid perforamnce, poor sound, it was a bit dissapointing as I have seen
them in the past and the was a servere lack of energy. The sun came out
but the mood didnt seem to change even during the nice change in weather.
4/10
Emillana Torrini 16:40 [Park Stage]
A nice set, the sound at the front killed it, it was unbearably dull as
a result, as much as Emillana came off as a lovely person i'd love to know
I couldnt get into it, improved by laying on the bank in the sun and it
relaxed me well but at the end, not overly impressed. 5/10
The Horrors 21.15 [The Other Stage]
Playing exclusivley their entire new album, Sea Within The Sea provided
a great closer to the set with the rest of the album comming out well,
nothing AMAZING but certainly entertaining and the thick bass and sense
of atmosphere was present, although not at all times. If it was more
consistent this would of been much better. 7/10
Animal Collective 23.15 [Park Stage]
Ready for dissapointment as My Girls came in soundig incredibly limp, the
new material which followed was SOOOO catchy and amazing it made up for it
then they kept on building on the momentum with a fantasticly extended
Fireworks being the highlight as well as the quite frankly intesne ending
to their set which HAS to be seen to be understood. 9/10
Saturday
Warsaw Village Band 11.00 [Jazz World]
Walking to meet my friend, over heard this bizzare polish sounding band,
and loved it! Brilliant, am going to seek out more, first discovery of
the weekend :D 9/10
Eagles OF Death Metal 13.30 [Pyramid Stage]
Brilliant fun, as usual, little crowd reaction and a bit of a boring feel
to the rock ch00ns ruined it, but the stage banter was pretty well done
and the fun associated was still felt. 7/10
Spinal Tap 14.50 [Pyramid Stage]
Could of been the greatest or worst thing ever, started off forced and
really boring, it picked up deffinatly, especially around the FANTASTIC
performance of Stonehenge and an apperance by jarvis cocker on bass
made it close to greatest as opposed to worst and for that alone i was
greatful I want to say 11/10 but realisticly I will go with8 7/10
Eliza Carthy 20:00 [Avalon]
It was alright, some songs were really lovely but it was just one of those
nice to lay out in a sunny day type deals :) 6/10
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street band 22:00 [Pyramid]
Banged out the classics, great atmosphere and brilliant crowd reaction,
I didnt ever seem to be able to get TOO involved though :( Shame as
it looked fun, maybe down to my chronic foot pain by this point :( 7/10
(probably deserves more)
DJ Scotchegg 1.30 [Trash City]
This was tooooooo fun :D Dancing dance good times (probably down to the
fact bitcore is always a bit of fun and i was very drunk at the time] 8/10
Sunday
Art Brut 12.50 (Other Stage)
Although proposed to be at 1.20, I had luckily arrived quite early and
got to enjoy one of the most entertaining sets of the weekends. Eddie
Argos is one of the best front men around, his recent additons to certain
songs such as 'Modern Arts' new Amsterdam chapter were fantastic as well
as the heart warming conclusion to Emily Kane :) Eddie was just on top form
the only real gripe was the bad sound that plauged the Other Stage all
weekend. 8/10
Tony Christie 13.30 [Pyramid Stage]
Not a fan at all, was pretty good to just sit and wait for some friends
though the conger lined that broked out during 'Road To Amarillo' was
fantastic and despite not liking the song, one of the highlights. 5/10
Linda Lewis 14.00 [Jazz World]
It was okay, some good some bad, was mainly there to kill time between
acts so I don't think I can truely reflect how good it was or not 5/10
Orquestra Aragon 15.45 [Jazz World]
Absaloutly loved this and am glad I skipped Tom Jones for it, just waiting
for my friend and enjoying ciders, when this came on I became captivated
and danced amongst many others in a free spirit kind of way the WHOLE set
no questions asked, a true highlight 10/10
Khaled 17.30 [Jazz World]
Really didnt like this at all, walked of pretty early due to shee boredem.
Perplexed by large crowd 2/10
Bat For Lashes 18.00 [Other Stage]
Despite her best efforts she could not over power or make me forget the
fact all I could hear was bass. Her costume was lovely and the crowd
were (sort of) responsive, however much she tried though I couldnt enjoy
nor the crowd I think enjoy her set. Dissapointing 4/10
Roots Manuvea 19.15 [Jazz World]
As much as I looked forward to this set, the antisipation for Nick Cave
ran threw my mind more, just as much as 'this is very flat, has no
impact and quite frankly is washing right over me' MAN! What a dissapoint
ment, the crowd and stage drained all the life right out of it. 3/10
20.00 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds [Pyramid]
From frantic noise with wisky swilling power lyrics to the beautiful
ballads, this set was pretty much flawless & despite getting the feeling
that the crowd had no idea what was going on, you kind of felt they enjoyed
that feeling so thats fine. 9/10
22.00 Blur [Pyramid Stage]
FANTASTIC, what a setlist, what a performance, what a crowd, what amazing
sound, just everything seemd to work. The double encore at the end was
the icing on the cake and despite not being very near the front or center
at all I very much felt a part of it all. Best headline festival set I
have EVER seen, and all you nay sayers should shut up before I cram a fist
up your arse. 10/10
Thats mine, what were yours?
