Foam of the Daze/Froth on the Daydream
has anybody read this before? I'm about half-way through and really enjoying it. It reminds me a lot of Lanark.
It is about two jazz-loving couples in a supremely weird vision of a future Paris (populated by cocktail-making pianos, talking mice and houses that alter in size depending on the mood of their inhabitants). It's all kind of magical, and a bit steampunk (not dissimilar to Titus Alone by Peake actually, but more fleshed out). One of them is obsessed with the philosopher Jean-Sol Patre and another one of them gets the horrific diesease of a lily growing in her lung, the only treatment for which is being surrounded by flowers.
It's absolutely incredible and comes with recommendations from Richard Hell AND Raymond Queneau in the blurb.
