I really wish the Green Party were a serious party. Let's discuss.
WAHEY ANOTHER ELECTION RELATED THREAD! Well, ish.
Anway, let's have a bit of a disection of the Greens.
There probalem has always been, and will probably continue to be, a PR issue. As an anecdotal example, last Friday I was going to pick up my post from the pigeionholes in my apartment block, there was an older gentlemen putting flyers in the boxes. He asked me i'd be voting Green at the elections. I said no, i'd be voting Conservative, but my housemates might be inclined to do so and i'd be happy to take a flyer and even a poster, and pass it on to them. He handed over the stuff and then said with a sense of self rightous indignation: "Well at least someone in your flat has a conscience!" Then he just walked off.
Then, when I went to vote last night there were two Green activisits outside, middle aged women. I had a little chat with them, said I thought the green agenda was rather important and, whilst I didn't vote for them I wished them the best of luck. They were pleasant anbd their hearts were in the right place, but they were just so... amateur. They were like "yeah, you know, we've got to stop climate change and stuff." They had no real conviction and no real idea as far as I could tell; but at least they were nice.
Then when walking home from the polling station, there was a 'Vote Green' poster in a house window, and underneath they (the homeowner) had scrawled "IF NOT FOR YOURSELF, THEN FOR YOUR CHILDRED!" I imagine they'd done this without even a hint of embarassment.
And I believe these examples to be pretty accurate of their grass roots at large.
So the Greens may be well meaning, and it's good that they have a voice on Councils around the country, but they're essentially pretty rubbish. They just don't have the talent. If you were a serious player wanting to help the environment you'd go join the Conservatives or Labour because only then would you actually be in a position to effect change.
