I watched Terminator: Salvation last night
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
Quite a lot of stuff I like, a fair bit I didn't, and a whole load of indifference. I spent quite a lot of time not really knowing what was going on, but not being that fussed about it.
*SPOILERS I GUESS A BIT*
GOOD
- the first bit when a half-dead terminator is clawing after John Connor, and you get that familiar feeling of an unstoppable foe :D
- ARNIE
- IT'S TERMINATOR
- IT'S ARNIE AS A TERMINATOR
- :D
- ummmmm
- explosions and stuff?
- the little kid from Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity in first film role
BAD
- the only character you vaguely give a crap about is Kyle, but he's not really given enough screen time to develop
- lots of characters that crop up that you essentially don't really care about
- the plot makes no sense, (not least because) given that the machines find and capture Kyle, they then don't kill him. They wait for John to come and attempt to rescue him, even though killing Kyle would negate John's existence? And then they have them fight terminators in hand-to-hand combat, rather than Skynet just shooting them. Surely all that technology would come up with something a bit more effective than a pretend human that can punch REALLY HARD?
- the little breakdown where they stop the action so that they can spell out for us precisely what's happening
- John Connor seems really underdeveloped here - even when the Arnie terminator appears, you'd expect some kind of flash of recognition or something... :-/
*END OF KIND-OF SPOILER BIT*
Mainly, last night served to remind me of why I never go to multiplex cinemas any more. Fair enough, the sound was awesome, but there was a catalogue of annoyances including:
- we had to go out and tell them to switch the lights off, as they were still on full while the film was beginning.
- people kept coming in late and just standing at the front, talking about where they should sit.
- the guys behind us talked all the way through - apart from when I told them to shut up, at which point they piped down in order to concentrate on kicking my chair for a while.
- when not talking / kicking my seat, the guy behind me kept humming the start of the terminator theme music at any quiet section.
- a guy at the front wore his bluetooth headset during the whole film, which flashed a blue light at 2-second intervals.
I hate other people.
