DiS Bookclub 2009 -------- Book 6 (June): A Burnt-out Case by Graham Greene
As chosen by alley.
"The plot concerns Querry, a world-famous architect, who is the victim of a terrible attack of indifference, he no longer finds meaning in art or pleasure in life. Arriving anonymously at a Congo leper village, he is diagnosed - by Dr Colin, the resident doctor - as the mental equivalent of a 'burnt-out case', a leper who has gone through a stage of mutilation. However, Querry loses himself in working for the lepers, his disease of mind slowly approaches a cure."
Sound good? I've not read any Greene before so I'm looking forward to this. Not got a copy yet but I might have a mooch down the shops later. Lots of copies on Amazon for 1p though.
So, the usual thing. Read it when you can and then have a good ol' trawl to find this thread and post thoughts etc if you can be arsed. It's good to bump.
