FAO Anybody With Familiarity With Dual-Citizenship Problems: Should I Risk Getting Arrested By The North Koreans?
It's a long shot, but I figured I'd put this out there. I've e-mailed the American embassy in London and they should hopefully get back to me tomorrow, but I'm curious if anybody has any experience with similar problems to the one I have.
I'm meant to be going to North Korea with some other people, for a week, in August. I really, really want to go, and will be bitterly disappointed if I miss my chance, as I'm pretty sure the regime won't last much longer.
But, there's a problem. I'm a dual citizen of both America and Britain, having British parents but being born in and living in the states for the the first years of my life. The original plan was to just use my British passport through Beijing to Pyongyang and hope they didn't have ways of finding out if people were of dual nationality (Americans are subject to much harsher restrictions, and are often barred from the country). But I don't want to spend almost a grand to go all the way there and get turned away on the border or, even worse, imprisoned for spying (it's happened before). I could just use my US passport, but then there's a chance I won't get in at all.
Also, I've done some freelance journalism, and journalists are currently barred as well - do you think they might Google my name and figure this out?
Thanks in advance y'all.
