My boss has never heard of Neil Young
My primavera (which will be referred to as PrimaYEAHra from here on in) ticket arrived at the office this afternoon. I said to my boss, "I'm so excited about finally getting to see Neil Young play live". A minute or two passed until she asked, "Has he done any songs I might have heard of?" She has no idea who this mope is.
I find that slightly strange, not in a music snob way, but in a general cultural since, that someone can't have heard of Neil Young. Not even as regards having listened to his music, but literally knowing who he was. I mean, he's been dead popular and prominent for several decades now, right? You could apply it to loads of different strands of popular culture (can't think of any good examples off the top of my head), I just find it slightly odd that you can have no idea who someone with such a big following is. She didn't know who Bruce Springsteen was either.
I know I'm probably coming across as a real music elitist twat here, but that's honestly not my intention. Just more people who seem to live under a rock in terms of stuff going on around them in popular cultre, for decades.
Great thread. No idea why I'm writing all this out. Probably because there is no conversation whatsoever at work other than occasionally about John Lewis sales or something. I have so much work to finish before I can leave tonight as well. I want to go to the beach.
