Police dig for dirt on Shami Chakrabarti

Damian Green has claimed that police searched his private e-mails looking for information on Shami Chakrabarti. If true, this is pretty fucked up.
I try to avoid "police state" hyperbole, but the police looking through the e-mails of an opposition politician on a computer that was obtained in a warrantless search on very shaky legal grounds, and based on "exaggerated claims"(according to the Home Affairs Select Committee) for information on a human rights campaigner with no conceivable connection to the investigation at hand... it doesn't look good, does it?
