Over-population

So who agrees with the vague gist of this (that there are too many people in world)? It's interesting to relate it specifically to the UK, too. Of course, it's not a particularly useful conclusion in itself, and any action to tackle it is difficult to say the least...
In my mind, the effects on quality of life and the sustainability of the human race are clear. And that's not considering Attenborough's wildlife/climate change concerns. Perhaps it's obvious, I dunno. Just an interesting thought.
Perhaps the better question is: what's more desirable - maximising the population, or maximising the quality of the lives of the population?
