these protests really seem to have annoyed people
Just looking through some of the threads from yesterday and it's all quite baffling and depressing. I didn't realise this place was so reactionary (although in part, maybe in total, it's just the usual idiots).
I mean no sane person is going to argue that it was totally purposeful, coherent or not containing plenty of useless twats, shitloads of bongos and reggae, bad clothes (though not as bad as a pink shirt) and smells (bankers undeniably win on this front) but I cannot understand how that is supposed to invalidate the entire protest. Is it not enough just to express dissatisfaction and anger, however nebulous? It shows people are totally fucked off with grand-scale incompetency at the expense of others and willing to express it. That counts for something. I wish
there had just been more people, so it couldn't be dismissed as just the usual time-wasters.
And I don't understand this bizarre statement that people trot out that they require a constructive unified alternative before they will go to a protest. Exactly what kind of utopian paradigm-shifting forum are you envisioning? Somehow it's presumed better to do absolutely nothing and just take it as a given that the governement and institutions are taking on board your silent unease at the situation. It's a possibility that a lack of visible protest is actually providing tacit consent.
I basically can't see why the thicko protestors seemingly invite more disregard than the thicko bankers who actually caused the mess in the first place. Maybe it's just my perception but I can't recall so many threads or posts on here condemning those who caused the financial crisis.
I don't have a problem with people not choosing to go for many very
valid reasons (say like actually having a job or thinking the protest too disparate or wrong-headed, I rarely bother with these things myself), I just can't understand the stream of hateful invective thrown in the direction of something that was at least (regarding most attendees) well meaning. I mean I wasn't even really there to make a loud protest, more just for an interesting day out, which it was.
