a question about charlie and the chocolate factory (charlie and the chocolate factory-centric)
ok, so i watched this for about the twentieth time on christmas eve (family meal). in one of the first scenes there are a load of kids in the sweet shop and the shop assistant/owner throws sweets to them without prejudice, from marshmellows to gobstoppers and all things in between, as Charlie looks on from outside the shop.
WHYYYYY does Charlie do this? I know he is supposed to be poor, but none of the kids hand the shopkeeper money, so why should it matter? Do the kids parents pay a 'tab' for the children? What gives?
