I just watched that Orange Act Unsigned programme for the first time.
I can see why it's so reviled. It's such a horrendously pessimistic show that is pretty much destroying all artistic intent for $$$$$
Today the kids had to do covers of songs. Three of the singer-songwriters did singer-songwriter songs and were told "Nah, too boring. It's what you do all the time anyway. Try something more daring." Then this boorish, lairy Glaswegian band did a cover of 'Blue Monday' (when they found out it was their arch-nemesis Alex James' favourite song they started "Aaaawwwww naaaaawwwww, maaaaan! WHIT!?") and the Judges started going "They'll never pull it off. It'll be a trainwreck. Shouldn't try to be so daring". The fuck?
And then, worst of all, this really annoying singer-songwriter chap from Glasgow came on to do a cover of 'Mr. Brightside' on the piano that he'd just learned how to play the day before. He was irritatingly awkward to the point of retardation, what with his spasmodic gestures and things. Then he sat at the piano and started playing like he'd been taking lessons since the age of five. Aye pal, give us a break will you?
So yeah, that's even more TV for me to ignore.
