Stop putting it in the fridge.
This thread's aim is to help me and those like me with a modicum of common sense get something off their chests regarding people and their bizarre refridgeratory habits.
1: Eggs.
This does my head in. Eggs have been perfectly happy being nature's own packaging and preservative for millions upon millions of years, and then, one fine day in the 1950s or something, some bored twat added some cute lil' egg holders to the door of one of their nuclear-proof fridge line and in one fell swoop managed to make the world a little bit stupider overnight.
2: Onions/Garlic.
First off, it's a bulb. It doesn't require anything to stay fresh. Secondly, and this is a cookery tip, too - cold garlic is much, much harder to peel. Room temperature garlic is piss easy and can be peeled in seconds in a variety of pleasing ways.
3: Ketchup.
I don't care if the bottle says 'refridgerate after use', it also says you should use it within 8 weeks and unless you're a chip guzzling sauce fiend, a large bottle of ketchup usually lasts longer than that. The stuff's made from large ammounts of vinegar, it's got a fucking half-life of about 5 years. I don't put tomato puree or harissa paste in the fridge, either. Pointless, they're all self-preserving.
4: Citrus Fruits.
If you've not cut them open, they don't need to be kept any fresher than they already are. Also, citrus fruits moulding in confined spaces causes a stink that's damn near impossible to remove, especially in a fridge.
5: Bread.
No, really. Do you want a slap? I will slap you. Take it out of the fridge you unbelievable numpty.
