A belated LOL at Ray Wilkins
Tuesday night:
Arsenal field a team with an average age of 19 against a near full strength Wigan side. Arsenal's kids smash them 3-0, play some glorious stuff and then the following day the press are drooling over some of the young prospects, including two or three genuinely exciting English teenagers
Ray Wilkins, Wednesday:
“Playing a young or weakened team undermines the value of the Carling Cup. You enter a competition to win the competition. Why go into it if you’re not concerned whether you win it?
“It’s all about winning trophies when you’re a big club. The fact we’ve won the Carling Cup twice in the last four years and Arsenal have won none justifies our policy."
Wednesday night:
Chelsea field a team of first teamers against a Burnley side that includes Ade Akinbiyi. Chelsea look as if they can't be fucked all night, draw 1-1 and then lose on penalties. Didier Drogba faces a potential ban after throwing a coin into the crowd
Really justifying that policy there, Ray
