I think this is a wonderful film
wouldnt it be awesome if tom made a tumble weed animation for when no one's replied on the social board for a few minutes
The form compliments the content well. Have you seen Waking Life?
it's basically Linklater using the same animation as he did in A Scanner Darkly. It's pretty trippy and philosophical- you'd probably like it if you enjoyed this one.
Probably because I love the book so much and wanted it to be so much better.
I just didn't like the rotoscoping at all. I wanted to engage with the characters like I did with the book and the animated quality really affected my ability to do that.
I did buy it after all.
Charlie Kaufman wrote a screenplay for it which is on the web somewhere. I haven't read it through but given the quality of everything else he's done I would love to have seen a film based on that.
The book is one of my favourites. The whole unrequited business with Donna combined with the unravelling of Arctor's psyche is just achingly good.
the splitting of Arctor's brain hemospere's and subsequent loss of reality wasn't deep enough (if that's the right expression) in the film.
I thought getting the plot line of Barris in as early as they did also spoiled the "I don't have a feckin' clue what's going on here just like the characters in the story" feel but overall it was pretty good.
but i really enjoyed the film
i found the animation annoying
