My simple guide to sustaining a relationship:
Cut out all unneeded forms of instantaneous communication.
Stop texting eachother with conversations. Only do it when you have to.
Stop talking to eachother on MSN.
Cut down on Facebook time.
Avoid phonecalls where the main subject of the conversation is: "so how are you?"
Why? Because:
- the time you spend together will be so much more interesting, with such a vast amount of things to discuss. Small things like a funny-looking person on the bus that normally would have been texted. You'll value their company much more overall.
- update texts, like "what are you doing now?" or "what are you up to?", cause paranoia. If the sender doesn't get a response within the usual time-limit, they often wonder about the reason for the delay. This leads to;
"is something up?"
"no, why?"
"you seem off with me."
"i'm not being off with you at all. stop being paranoid."
"FINE. don't talk to me."
exchanges, and to be quite honest, you can do without them.
I'm right about everything else; so trust me on this one too, and see your relationships blossom right before your eyes.
