Incremental changes that make your life better
Last weekend I threw out all my socks, and went and bought 16 pairs of new, identical ones. The benefits have been threefold. Count the ways:
1. Clean, new socks every morning offer 10 to 15 seconds of momentary pleasure daily
2. Given they are all exactly the same - black, medium thickness, height: 3 inches above ankle. So I never have to waste one more second either balling them together after washing or searching for the matching one in the drawer ever again
And, my favorite
3. The main driver of my washing cycle was when I was running out of socks. Previously that was every 8 days - cocking a snook at the credit crisis and expanding my sock inventory to a gluttonous 16 pairs means I can be a fortnight into the cycle, and still be feeling pretty comfortable with my wash basket situation.
So, in sum: I believe that this outlay has resulted in a (per diem) 10 to 15 extra seconds of joy, 20 seconds of time saveage, and a 0.8% decrease in overall anxiety. I recommend you go out this weekend and do the same.
Enough.
