The Final McCain/Obama Debate
Watch out for McCain doing things a bit differently.
Should be a yawn fest otherwise.

I'm yawning right now
Decent places to watch online?
lots

...

(i'd go with cnn cux they have that funny dial thing)
oh my
I'm watching the CNN stream and have some badass dubstep on the same headphones this is pretty intence.
I like watching the female vote go down on CNN when McCain speaks
that's because obama is dreamy
he is indeed
mmmm swoooooon
This is the "Say it to my face debate"
Should be good.
Politicians (other than Bill Clinton) talking economic facts
bore people to death. I already am pointing to yawnfest here.
given the current economic climate and people devouring the business pages lately
i disagree with you
They want to feel safe.
They want their jobs secure. They want their social security to be an entitlement.
They zone out when politicians talk about x billion dollars over y many years at z percent intrest.
Joe the Plumber is getting bored, yes
expect a fair few interviews with him this week
If Joe the Plumber endorses Obama it will be huge.
ho-fo do you think mccain will pull out the dirty tricks tonight
he'll make references or inferences to things already out there.
He's not got any bombs to drop.
Joe the plumber!!
haha, that was arse-clenchingly bad John.
Idiots love that shit though
He blinked a lot though
joe six-pack is so last week.
joe plumber is in!
its the same guy
joe the plumber has a six pack
Am i really stupid or...
do they both have pretty much the same policies but just sit there for two hours saying 'Don't vote for him, he's an idiot, vote for me'?
no, their policies are quite different
"I think the puppet on the left is right"
"Well the puppet on the right is more to my liking...hey, there's one guy holding both puppets!"
McCain
Needs to start looking into the camera more.
So he can CONNECT.
but he has eyes like black holes
its a bit scarey he shouldn't look at people to often it will put them off
McCain just accused Obama of class warfare
Oh LOL
if that's true, then Warren Buffet is some sort of socialist terrorist
Joe must love this
the debate will probably end up with one of them buying his company for him and a new house and car.
hahah
:)
cor, mccain is a ratty old cunt
Why all this Joe The Plumber talk?
Is Joe Sixpack over now?
This is FUCKING STUPID.
McCain: "Obama wants to increase taxes to the poor"
Chair: "Barack, do you want to increase taxes to the poor?"
Obama: "No"
McCain: "Obama wants to increase taxes to the poor"
McCain fear-mongering
that all the US bsuinesses will moveto Ireland. This is funny.
McCain just totally lied about American Business taxes
He's obviously never been to Scandinavia
I think McCain has taken an early lead
agreed
Fucking hell!!!!!
pork barrels and projectors.
"new material to the McCain ward..."
i've missed the first 15 minutes :(
Has anything interesting happened besides what the ^ comments imply?
Earmarks!
http://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/images/2008/09/13/earmarks.gif
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
NO HE DID'T.
McCain just completely dissed the Obamalama.
"If you wanted to run against President Bush you should have run 4 years ago"
BOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!!!
That will be played again and again all this week. That was a monster zing. Obama is gonna have his hands tied bringing up Bush again.
wait..
he said 'the same economic principles'
that was pretty good
i think mccain is doing better so far
i do.
I don't think Obama's done much wrong, but McCain sounds ballsy.
"I'VE GOT THE SCARS" - shut up Johm you fucktard.
mos def
there is no way anyone can balance the budget over 4 years
NO WAY
abolish medicare?
that wouldn't do it
maybe discovering a MASSIVE offshore oil field might do it in about 6-8 years
withdrawing from Iraq would have to be a pre-requisite in any case
Health care spending is around 15% of the Federal budget.
and if you remove it from the budget?
you have an increase in burden on the budget as a consequence
how so?
general poor health would have a massive consequence
on job absenteeism for one thing,
it would also impact the pharmaceutical industry quite considerably and would probably actually cause a collapse in their markets similar to the banking collapse
there are lots of other consequences of driving a health wedge between different classes in the US
basic health is such a priority for healthy productivity - I'm surprised you ask
you're thinking too long term.
oh come on
if they cut healthcare spending it would have immediate impacts
do you know how many people are on prescription drugs in the US? Nearly half, and one in 6 takes 3 or more drugs on prescription daily
i completely agree
but I'm playing devil's advocate.
Its not an extremist posistion in the US and certainly not withing the Republican Party
obama is far better
in every way
Obama's comeback's been pretty good, to be fair, but that was a major MAJOR soudbyte/diss.
Obama is still going for the
Bush connection though. A good tactic if it wasnt for THAT line
AHHH the negative campaign issue
coolio
bush/economy double whammy
Everyone'll remember the McCain bit more though.
HOLY SHIT
McCain's going for the sympathy vote.
repudiate
mccain just wants to bait obama into opening the door to the ayers stuff
nah, that would be good for obama
McCain's personal attacks on Obama haven't sat well with most viewers/voters.
i think obama will look slippery if forced to answer directly to the accusations in a debate situation
i don't give a shit about ayers. palin's support for a pro-separatist party sponsored by IRAN is far worse
mccains's talking about the campaign instead of the issues now
that's been good for obama previously, no?
McCain is doing so well.
I'm really REALLY nervous.
I think sitting helps him out
the last time with him wandering about, he just looked awkward and a bit retarded. Now he is taking his time and looking calm
scores so far, gaylords?
i'm going Obama 19% McCain 81%, YEAH!
well. thats the top end. but yeah/
Well, I think Obama is playing too straight a bat
yes
though he did sneak a mention of McCain's disconnect with Bush on the subject of torture
that was subtle
obama's spending has been insane
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article4951526.ece
$42 million last week just on tv ads in 17 states
but whatever. let's deal with campaign spending limits after obama wins
why spending limits???
he's raised more money than anyone else cos people have given him more money than anyone else. Cos he's a really good candidate.
in this election
generally republicans have the advantage, naturally. it distorts everything - money talks and those with the most money have their voice heard most. you'd remove so much of the corrupting special interest stuff in one go if you imposed upper limits
you mean Republicans have the advantage right?
Those with the most money do have their voice heard most. But Joe Biden was a candidate. Barrack Obama was a candidate. Barrack Obama raised loads of money in the primaries and Joe Biden didn't. Seems pretty fair.
money corrupts the whole political process. in this election it's been to our advantage
but whether that's he case or not, i'd rather elections were free from undue financial influence. yes in this case obama has had loads of small donations and has raised record amounts. but usually this is no0t the case and corporates / lobbyists have too much say simply because candidates rely on that kind of funding rather than smaller individual funding too much - which they generally have to given how much money must be spent.
there are donation limits.
Due to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (McCain-Feingold)
really? what are the limits?
$2,300 this election.
spending limits are unconstititutional
i know. freedom of expression and all that
well, the influence of PACs and so on need to be curtailed somehow. i don't know how though
McCain "I watched some football"
Obama "Congratulations" :D
WOAH!
McCain's lefthanded. I wouldn't vote for a left-handed man.
they are sinister
badaboom!
I'm lefthanded
:(
^sinister^
God, even two of the (potentially) most powerful people in the known world
can't even look each other in the eyes as they talk about the content of their expensive, petty diss ads against each other.
Both of them are cowards.
Obama is much better at doing it.
Its a good job McCain specified
that Obama had spent more now on advertising than in the 18th Century

why's Obama playing it so cool?
He's getting mullered, is he not?
oh dear
McCain is sliding into the dark with this
no doubt.
but lots of Americans will believe it.
"Its not the fact.... IT IS NOT THE FACT..."
Weird turn of phrase from McCain.
I dunno
all the lil CNN bars go up miles more when he is on compared to McCain...
but we're not acting as voters right now.
We're acting as pundits.
The pundits will spin this debate ALL week. Perhaps till the last election. More people will see clips from the debate on news shows than will see it live.
What you've got to look out for is the sigular moments (the soundbites) that will get played again and again and again. Right now McCain has had the better of those.
very true
obama has seemed pretty tame and a bit to laid back tonight and that isn't going to come accross to well in all the news sound biting
totes
i'm loving this split screen
and great explanation on ayers, obama!
Quite a good line from
Obama there
"That's absolutely not true--"
"--And the facts are facts."
RUNNING MATE TALK
:DDD
this should be fun
I LOLED hard!
Obama could win this debate easily...
by simply clicking and downing his pen, shuffling his papers, straigtening his tie, and saying this - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J6yjYbQpj0g
this would be better
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eq-EdsgeO1A
Haha - running mates
what can McCain possibly say?!!?
she is a role model for women??
oh jeez
"BRESH OF FRETH AIR"
Autism is more likely with older mothers
there's yr answer, John.
Argh!
Why is Obama being nice about Palin?
Missed opportunity there.
He certainly missed that
hmm
Nahh
There was a bit of a backlash from "normal people" against the media, for what they percieved to be snobbery. Be all and end all is, give Palin enough rope and let her hang herself.
no point in being nasty
it won't help him with the undecided voters
true
"BRESH OF FRETH HAIR"
Yeah, John, YEAH!
The CNN dial group (the woman's line) is hardly moving
When McCain talks about Palin.
He used her kid!
Outrageous!
special needs?
Palin understanding special needs is one of his key points on her potentially making a good president?
he has a lot of empathy of something
yeah, but it's not genuinely a good point
It might go over well with some viewers, but the fact of the matter is that there isn't any truly good reasoning. And McCain is not who he used to be. I always thought he was better than this Palin business--as well as most of the rest of this election--has revealed. Whatever, old news.
*she
He also said her husbands
well hard so vote for us or he'll mess you up
I get the feeling Obama's sneaking back into things here.
Not said out that amazing but still...
39%/61%
come on
you don't know anything about what's going on, so stop making up meaningless percentages
neither do most of the people watching.
and my scores on the previous debates have always tallied up with other peoples, despite me not knowing as much. Most of it's common sense.
I think is about on the money.
He's opinion is as good as anyone's.
(Plus there's there reply buttons you click if you disagree)
^ this.
although i'm completely unschooled on the subject, we agreed that Obama did him 3-1 in the first leg.
McCain definitely seems to be slipping
seems to be taking a few wild swings with a lot of them not connecting
how's McCain's environmental talk been going over in the past?
(And HOW DO I NOT KNOW THIS ALREADY? :( )
People who care about it vote Democrat.
He styles it more along the lines of energy.
Yeah, but how's it gone over?
With people who don't actually know much/care about it, who are more neutral or leaning towards outright careless.
Well if people don't care about an issue
Its probably not going over very well.
Haha McCain just said
"We need to build more muclear power pants"
*nuclear
.
'Nuclear Pants'
now thats a policy I can vote for
OBAMA JUST LOOKED AT THE CAMERA.
HE'S STILL DOING IT.
I'm SO hot for him right now.
when you look into his eyes
you see god Himself
I think Johnnyboy's getting tired.
Nurse, can we get him some Horlicks?
he looks like he needs a pint with Joe Plumber
Joe Plumber
plays the pan pipies in an ambeint clash tribute band by the way.
he's certainly fraying
Obama is so much more accomplished in every way than McCain
his answers are so much more detailed and thoughtful
mccain makes general wishy washy points, platitudes and ridiculous comments about nuclear subs. and people accused obama of lacking substance!
this is McCain's last stand
if he can feel it slipping away thats the presidency thats out of his grasp.
Obama wants to make flying cars
what a time to be alive
OBAMA SAID "YO"
many times
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eq-EdsgeO1A
"Hugo Chaves has been helping to FART TERRORISTS?!?"
Did i just imagine that?
IT HAPPENED!!!!
I jotted it down in mirthy disbelief.
"Helping fart the terrorist organisation"
was what I wrote down.
FARC
what does Farc mean?
they're commies!!!
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/farc.htm
they are about as communist as tony montana
it's a leftists guerilla / terrorist organisation seeking to overthrow the colukmbian government
peoples' revolutionary movement of columbia or something.
gthey are narco-terrorists and a bunch of cunts. the columbian government are cunts too. as are the right-wing paramilitaries. all cunts.
^ this is totally accurate
a right bunch of cunts being cunts
I AM SO SICK AND FUCKING TIRED OF THIS PRE-CONDITION THING
YOU HAVE NO POINT, JOHN!
It's like the Democrats saw the film American Gangster...
and created a humanoid based on Frank Lucas, only without the drugs and guns. It's absolutely beautiful. He could just sit there reciting the alphabet, i'd still love it.
JOE'S BACK!
HE'S ADDRESSING JOE PLUMBER DIRECTLY!
His old buddy Joe. Ahah.
hey Joe...
Where you going with that gun in your hand?
Joe wasnt even McCains buddy
it was Obama that ut all the work with him
...He's not actually trying to insinuate that national health care is *unamerican*, is he?
not "national"
I'm tired. Although actually, that's what he's trying to reference. But not really the plan. But blahblahblah I think I've stopped making sense. How are you guys alert right now 6 hours ahead of me?
it's socialist! reds under the hospital bed!
But Joe has at least a $200,000
I dont think he is that worried about not having health insurance
$200,000 is nothing. healthcare in the states is very expensive, especially if you pay
non-insurance company negotiated prices
^ this
It's outrageous.
200,000 is not nothing.
Considering 95% of people earn less than $250,000 and 70% have healthcare.
Sorry 85% have healthcare
i didn't mean the earnings are nothing. but i do think those on that kind of wage
would still very much be bothered by health insurance and the cost of having it
if joe the plumber is buying a small business than thats not his wage
thats the excess money he can afford to spend on buying a new business.
but having healthcare doesn't even actually mean all your healthcare's covered
There are still co-pays, and insurance doesn't cover everything either. Insurance covers as little as it can, actually. My neighbor's mom was in the hospital for 2 nights recently and it cost them $3,000, even though they have healthcare. Healthcare in America *does* need to be fixed. But anyway, the point was about those who don't have insurance. And their healthcare costs will be very, very expensive.
healthcareinsurancehealthcarepfdblgah
I was thinking exactly this point.
McCain looks dumbstruck.
He's trying to look incredulous.
BUT HE LOOKS LIKE HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT OBAMA'S PLAN WAS! LIKE HE ACTUALLY THINKS IT A GOOD PLAN NOW!
BIG POINT TO OBAMA THERE.
Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe
Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe
Are transplants fancy extras in American healthcare?
Seems pretty vital if you need one
Senator Government
Hi!
is McCain basically saying here that it's okay to kill babies?
ooh Roe V Wade and Supreme court
this is really very important - for Democrats especially
Especially as its going to be liberal judges who will be replacing.
exactly
the most important thing about this election IMO.
mine too
BBC's analysis is good for a laugh
"Do Obama's laughs work? He has several times appeared in the wide shot openly amused at McCain's attacks."
""I admire his eloquence, but you have to pay attention to words" McCain will declare a war on words."
"McCain garbles and calls Obama "Senator Government"."
Is it okay to say that if you're against abortion completely then you're a fucking idiot?
I'm gonna say it; If you're against abortion completely then you're a fucking idiot?
i don't think it makes you an idiot at all
i'd always support the woman's right to choose, but i certainly don';t think you are stupid for believing a foetus is a life and that takes precedence.
that's not what i'm saying.
i completely agree with what you just said.
m i misunderstanding you?
"if you're against abortion completely then you're a fucking idiot"
if someone says that abortion is wrong under any circumstance...
nobody says it's wrong when the mother's life is threatened
if you mean rape and incest - well, again, you can argue you should not punish the 'baby' for the crimes of its father. i don't agree with that position in that as i said i'd allow women the choice, but i dont think believing that makes you an 'idiot'.
no, you've completely mistrued what i said.
maybe i misunderstood what they're talking about. People who're completey AGAINST abortion are idiots, imho.
and i'm saying people who are completely against abortion (except where the mother's life is at stake)
aren't idiots, whether i agree with their position or not
"your pregnant daughter is in a coma and will die if she doesn't have an abortion"
"oh we can't let her do that. we're pro-life"
woah, hang on.
I'm not against abortion. I said that people that are against abortion completely, are idiots.
very few pro-lifers support that though and neither does the catholic church
as far as i am aware (i could be wrong). if mother's life is at stake, abortion is permitted,
not for "people that are against abortion completely"
which is quoting kissinginkansas
yes but is that what he actually meant?
KiK - did you mean people who are against abortion even in cases of rape and incest, or did you mean only people who are against abortion even when the mother's life is at stake?
neither, i meant nothing like that.
I don't know anything about the case they were talking about. I think people who're absolutely against abortion are idiots, e.g people who think it should be anything but the mother, or in some cases couple's choice. Abortion is something that absolutely must be allowed to happen. There are some absolutely pro-life people who are completely against abortion, they are the muppets. You're confusing me here, i've explained this three of four times.
actually, yeah, you did kind of cover this in previous posts.
we all agree it should be the parents decision, let's call it a day.
i'm just saying those that disagree with your view aren't idiots
they just have different political and moral values and beliefs
they definitely are.
you should see the 'Georgi Kinkladze isn't the greatest footballer to ever play in Britain' thread.
it took "against abortion completely"
to mean "under ANY circumstances"
yeah which it does literally
but generally it's accepted that most pro-lifers would makes an exception when another life - the mother's - is at risk
There are no easy answer on abortion
It should be the woman's choice though, no doubt about that.
oo - nice rebuttal from Obama there
Can I take this opportunity to say that I really hate the term "pro-life"?
It's not as if pro-choice people are "anti-life." Whereas "pro-life" people really are anti-choice.
well you could argue they are anti-life in that they are anti- the sanctity of 'life'
(depending on what you regard as life of course)
but yes that term was quite the coup for anti-abortionists, along with 'partial birth'
Obama is talking about promoting abstinence
:O OH MY SHIT!
I think Obama has turned it round now
even taken a slight lead
nah.
As I said above, he's had the best of the singular moments that will be spun and spun by the pundits.
McCain has? really?
Id put Obama ahead but only just
Whats i'm saying is
McCain won the first half.
The second half has been a tie.
Remember about half the viewers don't sit the whole debate through.
So its a slight win for Mcain.
i agree
but at this stage, plus with the early voting in some states and obama's ad spend power, it really doesnt matter.
I reckon it could put some states out of Obama's reach.
See: West Virginia, Arkansas, South Dakota, Indiana, North Carolina
McCain's just descended into pettiness
had he walked the line a little better, based on his opening, this could have been his - as it is, it's close but Obama's been less erratic.
But more erotic.
Nah. McCain won it.
Obama got the better of him in the latter stages, sure, making good point on abortion and (i think) the economy, but as people say above, McCain got the big soundbite, and was bullish early on.
Final score: Obama 2 McCain 4
Hmmm... I take the point
McCain definitely did better early on, and got more hits on Obama but overall Obama was about a lot more competent. I suppose i is the soudbytes that come accross after though
Did McCain just advocate people being able to come
out of the army and become teachers without sitting any teaching courses? That seems like a stupid policy.
Yeah, WTF?
Put me right off.
AGGHHHHHH
"they come with their children. Precious children. Who have autism. Sarah Palin knows about that more than most" Hilarious.
obama did say 'children are our future' which made me lol a bit
he should've launched into the full song, tbh.
McCain just looked petty there, really.
VOUCHERS, VOUCHERS. Shut the fuck up whiteboy, i'm talking here.
convincing close from McCain, though, i reckons.
Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes.
Even Fox News are saying Obama won the debate
It seemed to me that Obama won the debate, I can't relate to the posts here much.
the old double-bluff
a republican commentator just said 'the reason the independents haven't swung to0 obama is because he can'
can'
t close the deal"
um, okay. SO WHY HAVEN'T THEY SWUNG TO MCCAIN THEN?????
A CNN instant poll awarded the debate to Obama, who secured 58% to McCain's 31%. A CBS poll gave it as Obama 53% to McCain's 22%.
I thank you
How 21st century does this look?
Got a browser window open with Barack Obama talking directly to me.
I keep thinking I'm playing Comand & Conqure: Red Alert
it looks well like the little cut scence inbetween missions. AFIRMATIVE!
hofo what percentage of americans are middle class roughly
It's more that everyone thinks they are
Basically in the US its hard to be middling rich.
You're either below £250,000 (95% of the population) or you're are million really (3% of the population).
So its only a tiny slice at the top that isn't middle class and as there is a great deal of social mobility many millionaires come from middle class families.
There is no 'working class' really anymore and as the poorest people in the US are Black and Hispanic the term working class has a great deal of racial problems ascociated with it.
Well, that was a lot closer than I thought it would be in terms of an arm wrestle
But Obama's America looks WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY more appealing than Palin's erm... I mean McCain's America
-
First Leg: Obama 3 McCain 1
Second Leg: Obama 2 McCain 4
Aggregate: 5-5
Goes to pens.
Legs?
There were three debates.
i missed the first one, so we're discounting that.
Obama won that close.
Obama won the whole debate series.
I love these debates,
I wish there were presidential debates every single week forever.
That WAS the best of the debate so far.
deinitely the most in-your-face.
but i'm not sure McCain had much choice really.
Fox's Undecideds focus group say Obama won the debate
but it's not looking like it's swung their vote. they especually liked McCain's 'I'm not President????’??????????
Obama won that one but they say he lost the last one????
At least its 'fair and balanced'.
it's not news, it's fox
*Bush"
looks liek teh swing voters are leaning obama actually
Highlights
McCain: Nuclear power pants.
McCain: Bresh of freth air.
McCain: They come to the town hall debates. They come with their children. Precious children. Who have autism. Sarah Palin knows about that more than most
Obama: Yo
How AMAZING would it be if the American press covered it like this?
"Yeah, thanks Mindy, well McCain won 4-2, highlights were he said pants on air, completely monged another sentance for the LOLS, said something about disbleds and Obama just smiled a lot and looked ethnic. Back to the studio".
give it five years
Obama has a grammatically incorrect tic
that I noticed twice though I think he said it more than twice
he says 'a important...' instead of 'an' obviously
not important but it was there
Does he pronounce it 'ay' ?
Otherwise that's just really annoying to pronounce, what an unfortunate tic.
yes ay as in gay
still...
Thanks for staying up with me you guysch
I'm glad my little obsession interests so many people.
heheh
yuou should be thanking 200 million or so americans for their support
They're both charismatic bastards but I don't like McCain's little hands so Obama wins
CNN poll from the tee-vee: Obama 58, McCain 31
is CNN generally Democrat?
because that seems a bit silly. I don't see how anyone couldn't see McCain didn't shade it, although Obama blatanly bucked up late on and McCain got a bit petty. I take it the 11% are unmoved/undecided? If i had to put figures on it i'd guess something like 58/42 McCain.
* couldn't say
CNN is pretty down the line
And I reckon they are a more serious bunch of journalist than fox and won't weight their focus groups in any direction.
What helps Obama in this situtation is that these focus groups now Obama. They're not like a jury who have to have never heard of the defendent before. They know Obama won the previous debates. They know Obama is up in the polls. They, as a group of people, should be favouring Obama anyway just given their profile. If Obama is up 53-41 in the polls then take a group of twenty people and you'd expect 11 would support Obama and 8 would support McCain.
even fox's focus group say obama won that one
(amongst undecideds i mean. but they haven't put out figures yet)
CBS Obama 53, McCain 22.
HoFo...
If you had to call the election now, ideally simplifying it for me by using numbers or short sentences a) what would your call be, and b) do you think anything could force a major swing either way in the run-up?
i'm not hofo but if i may
(a) obama's gonna win with a landslide and take 12 or so of the 17 swing states
(b) another 9/11 and even not necessarily then
great minds
except even a small terrorist attack
will help McCain in a HUGE way.
One mad-man with a rucksack goes into a mall and kills half a dozen people.
I see Obama's lead slahsed if it happens about 5 days before the election.
i disagree
mccain is the natural home for people freaked out by that, but i think obama will manage to stem the losses
depends on the media coverage.
It could be a big donkey slap on Bush - "you didn't protect us etc. etc."
But it is the only thing that can deliver this election for Obama.
do you think that (excuse me for being drunk here)...
that in the most outlandish possible scenario, the serving Republican government could ensure some sort of attack on home soil to swing it in McCain's favour?
no
that'd make a good drama, though.
it would be foolish and possibly bring down the US constitution as we know it
plus it would fuck the markets up bigtime.
plus it has not guarentee of working.
fair play, Vikkers.
didn't have you down as being a bright boy.
a) Obama will win the election
http://www.270towin.com/ <-- go to this site. all the states in blue WILL vote for Obama. Obama just needs to win one of the 8 toss-ups state. I think he will win the majority of them.
b) A terrorist attack.
they were speaking about this on the tele the other day...
saying that in some of the states McCain is favourite in, Obama's teams are outnumbering McCain's by up to 20/1 and that there are so many disenchanted poorer voters that at least a couple of them should swing. True? Surprising in any way?
Its true.
Its surprising considering 2004. But Obama is a candidate who is exciting people like never before. If there is an Obama landslide it will be because their organisation is just so good.
don't newly registered voters favour obama something like 4-1?
if they go out and vote - and obama's formidable grassroots organisation will hopefully enrue that - he's gonna win all sorts of states nobody would have expected a couple of months ago.
(and there's been a big increase in registered voters i believe)
a small percentage.
its not been staggering.
I'm kinda worried about things on that front.
in ohio they had resigstration and early voting on the same day. The Obama camp said they'd get around 100,000 new voters to the polls registered and then vote.
They got around 10,000. It could be all hype. :S
Not quite four to one
More like 3-2
don't you ruin my hyperbole!
ruined my day too
.
The final count of "Joe" references is 25.
McCain: 21, Obama: 4.
Haha
This was the best debate, I could barely believe it when McCain started that implausibly sentimental speech about Joe - for it to just run and run was a dream come true for me.
Joe the plumber
This past weekend Obama went around in a blue-collar Ohio neighborhood knocking on doors and talking to people. A photo-op, yes, but a very smart and impressive one. Joe the plumber was one of these people Obama spoke with: View full video here of their exchange: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFC9jv9jfoA
Even before the debate Joe was slagging of Obama on Fox News and he was interviewed over the phone with Katie Couric post-debate, in which he came off as further a less-taxes single-issue Republican.
There is a post on Politico that saying that some kind of Ohio election folks investigated and that apparently Joe hadn't registered to vote.
Really hope Obama will manage to hang on to his lead in the polls and convert that a win. The next 19 days are going to be very long.
I'm worried about joe
