A thought for DiS (re-explained)
All I was suggesting was new users can't start threads, until, say 5 people (mods or other trusted users) have given them the thumbs up to start threads on the social board. Not setting some 5000 post barrier or making them sit in a newbie waiting room, just a suggesting little human, wiki-like, barrier of entry. Kinda like the way clubs don't let in people wearing football shirts?!
Not suggesting some huge barrier, just enough to stop moderators, who give up their time to help this site stay more pleasant. It seems to me they spend a helluva lot time deleting threads from ghoul and fools like that, as well as the unrelenting nike spam (done by individuals signing up).
Tis only me running DiS full-time and I'm not sure how much Sam, Mike, Alex, Kev and Gareth used to do dealing with ban requests, spam, etc, but I seem to be spending an hour or so a day dealing with notes from users and my sunday afternoons are now spent deleting spam.
So to clarify the idea is thus
- anyone can sign up
- anyone can reply to threads
- new users can't start a thread (possibly limited to can't start a thread on the social board) until they've been approved by 5 other users for their replies
Or even, they can only reply to threads and when they've posted 10 replies they can then start threads?!
Other suggestions warmly welcomed, am just trying to make this place less full of trash for everyone.
