Friday Football Fred
Morning. Thought I'd get in first with this free for all today.
Man City squeaked through to the UEFA Cup first round. I would add that only Man City would do that, but typical Man City would in fact be their leading 3-0 on aggregate with twenty minutes left of the second leg and then going out on away goals. Villa got through with their feet up. Well done St Patrick's Athletic, who are also in the draw taking place at midday.
Owen Hargreaves won't be fit for England's games against Andorra and Croatia. It says here this adds to Capello's midfield problems, but given those otherwise amount to Steven Gerrard it's hardly the Alomo. Er, the Alomo in an international midfield context.
Chelsea were reputedly selling Robinho shirts online yesterday, and you can guess the rest of this sentence.
Henrik Larsson, 86, might be going to Everton or Spurs.
Berbatov.
Slaven Bilic is going to give up managing his home nation where he is successful and revered to take over from the not all bad but never liked by the fans, which has suddenly apparently become crucial after all these years, Alan Curbishley. Right.
Jose Mourinho says he should have left Chelsea in the summer of 2007, the year that punk rock broke (my heart).
Miguel Veloso to Spurs, Joao Moutinho or Mehmet Topal to Everton, Freddie (see?) Ljungberg to Portsmouth, Walter Pandiani (!) to West Ham.
Finally, a genuine quote from the Grauniad: "Arsenal's board will attempt to placate fans grumbling about the lack of transfer activity by appointing a new £1m-a-year chief executive next month after three candidates have been interviewed next week." And I hope they're grateful for it.
