Another wedding related thread... [rant-centric]
One of my good friends from Uni is getting married in August. They've been together about 15 months, with her spending September - June abroad in Morocco. he proposed at Christmas, and the wedding is August this year - partly because, both being Christians who don't believe in sex before marriage [only, he had had sex with a previous girlfriend] they want the wedding to be as soon as possible. I agreed casually to go once the engagement was announced, thinking I'd decide later, however the groom was very upset by another mutual friend agreeing then dropping out - a friend who isn't a close to him as I am, so I feel obliged to go. Transport is going to cost me close to £50, I imagine, as well as finding accommodation, and I can't take a guest, so will be travelling and attending unaccompanied. The gift list has just been sent out, to top everything else off. I am completely broke but hoping my teaching pay will have come through so I don't let a friend down, but really, I find the wedding a complete joke. They're only just 20, have spent less time together than me and tommyroxx, and the wedding's this soon because they want to get sexing.
I don't doubt that they're very much in love, but this seems a rushed decision without much realistic thought put into it. Anyway, I'm going, because I feel I should. And I'm not sure where this thread is going. Sigh. Any comments? Similar situations? Am I just being a big cynic who should be happy he'll finally get some lovin' again?
