Football Thread spin-off: Sum up your club's season
So the domestic campaign isn't finished yet; 3 very important games still to go and 6 clubs who still have everything to play for. But I'm bored and impatient, so there. Feel free to add what you'd like to see next season.
Chelsea don't really look that bad on the face of it; 2nd in the league (particularly when we looked adrift in the earlier stages of the season) and two finals. But all season we've lacked an edge or killer instinct and you've got to think really that with a bit more grit, determination and pace in the side, we'd have at least one trophy in the cabinet now. Strange tactics, techncially gifted but aesethically null football and a seeming desire to pass the ball to Cech as many times as possible in 90 minutes have let us down.
Next year I'd like to see us switch to more direct football. Regular 4-4-2 formation, with a good, strong holding man and pacy, skillfull poacher up front. David Villa could quite easily be the former. Essien has to play in midfield now that we've signed a decent defensive right back, and a fair few players (namely Malouda, Belletti and Shevchenko, as well as squad players like Haim who add little to our depth) have to go. Grant to go back upstairs too, but the new manager (a decent, proven one please. Mancini would go down well) to be given a good few years to do their job. Its no co-incidence that Man Utd and Arsenal are consistently good and have been with their managers for decades.
