Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core [supergeekery]
I always feel a little bit dirty talking about video games on here.
Anyway, finished this at the weekend, and I really sort of hated it. FF7 was a favourite of mine, and the talk was that this was going to be the most closely linked title in this whole big cash-in that Square are doing. And yeah, some of it is fairly cool in that respect: there's a revisiting of one of the best bits from the original game, and the ending is really, really great. The rest of the plot is turgid rubbish, though: hey, remember all your favourite characters? Angeal, Genesis, Cissnei and Lazard? No? Well they all get an inordinate amount of time given over to them. They're boring. Even their voice actors sound bored. And none of the plot makes any sense either: stuff just happens without any build-up or reasoning. And everyone "sounds like chapters from a self-help booklet;" stop going on about "embracing your dreams," you spackers.
The combat is okay: you control one character (Zack, who is a bit Poochie for my liking) through a weird mix of action/stats-based fighting. What is not okay is that there's a random wheel that determines special moves. WHAT AN EXCELLENT IDEA. It's really, really fucking annoying from start to finish.
Okay, I'm going to shut up now.
