Jamie Carragher (Last Night Anger-centric)
Firstly there was much to commend last night's game, it was one of the most exciting I've watched for ages. So there's the balance. However, something really got to me throughout and made me shouty at the TV. No, not Senderos being useless, not Eboue being a shithead and not Fabregas and Gerrard being absent for the duration or that Walcott's run was deserving as the 'winner' in any game of football ever played. But rather the praise being heaped on Jamie Carragher. Now, I do realise that Carragher is a very good player but what is it with the football cognoscenti's obsession with describing him as 'Probably the greatest player of eva'. Last night's chatter about him 'being the best right back of all ever', 'probably better than Cafu and G. Neville combined and he's actually a centre half', 'wow, look Jamie Carragher just walked over some water and scored Torres' goal with his mind'. He did a passable job for a man out of position so why the hyperbole? Until the penalty Toure was clearly the better of the two ill at ease right backs but did anyone care? Not with Carra on the pitch. That said, best defender on the night was Skrtel by some stretch, he really looks a player.
What would I know though I follow a team with post-modern mascotry, a man in a fox suit carrying a stuffed fox which used to be alive and was the mascot, both of which are called Olga: http://www.carlisleunited.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10361~711662,00.html
