At what point do you think you'd report a crime that didn't directly affect you?
I was just listening to a benefit fraud hotline ad and it got me thinking.
I suspect most of us take the attitude that any criminal activity that doesn't directly involve us is none of our business and we'd be 'meddling' if we went to the police.
So what I'm interested in is at what point people actually would decide it was their responsibility to report something. I mean at one end of the spectrum I'd feel quite confident in assuming most people on here would not report drug use or drug dealing or any kind of DVD/copyright piracy. I'd also imagine that, whilst most probably won't condone shoplifting, they woulnd't actively point it out to the store if they saw it going wrong.
On the other end of the scale I imagine most people would report a murderer, rapist or child abuser if they knew someone to be guilty of these offences but there must be a line somewhere in the middle of both extremes at which people would decide to report something.
So what do you think it is for you?
