Dismissing internet bores
Aim of thread:
To establish rules of thumb for dismissing tedious/unreasonable individuals and arguments on the internet.
Background:
Godwin's law [1] suggests that any argument may be declared null and void if comparison is drawn to Hitler and/or the holocaust. Although Spiderman himself insists that the holocaust never happened, [2] we will assume for now that the rule holds true. The authors suggest that it may be possible to identify other similar 'rules of thumb' in order to dismiss boring discussions before they even start.
Method:
Posting a topic on this forum about the things that I just said.

I offer 'overrated' in any discussion about music. You can find evidence for this in the Bjork thread in Music right now. Whenever someone chimes in that an artist is 'overrated,' it's not going to be long before they're mouthing off about the superiority of their own tastes, all popular music is crap, 'most people have shit taste, people=shit;' basically the same ideas that original internet-hate-enthusiast Maddox has been peddling for years (although he does it with amusing swears and MS Paint diagrams).
Others please. Perhaps we can set up some kind of filter. FOR MY EYES.
