The Dissolution of the Railways
Surely one of the biggest tragedies in the history of transport. Its hard to believe that the world outside London had a network as strong as the one within the M25 - there were even THREE stations in Wells where I grew up but by the time i got there they were gone, with only remnants of track and engine sheds left, thus meaning no way of getting anywhere unless you had a crappy car. Nice work, 'Dr' Beeching.
