Boxing in 2008...
With the rise in folk's interest in the sport, 2008 could be a massive year for boxing, and British boxing in particular. Anyone excited? I ruddy well am. It all kicks of this saturday with Roy Jones Jnr v Felix Trinidad - Trinidad should take that, what with Jones being a bit old and glass-chinny, although the guy is a boxing legend and he's someone Calzaghe should have fought way back when if he wanted to be considered a boxing great himself...
On Feb 2 we have Amir Khan v Martin Kristjansen and then on March 8th we have 'the biggest British fight for 15 years' as the Hayemaker takes on Maccarinelli...that should be a belter...
Potentially one the greatest fights for years will happen on the 15th March when Manny Pacquiao takes on Juan Manuel Marquez in the states, whilst in early April, we look certain to get Calzaghe v Old Man Hopkins. Top stuff.
In addition I'd like to see Hatton take Junior Witter apart, and then maybe a triumphant Calzaghe take on Ruy Jones jnr later in the year before retiring. He's got no-one else decent to fight...
Let's get ready to rumble! etc...
