Bus stop conversations
Is there actually anything worse than this ever? It's beyond painful, really.
I mean, you get there, sit down and within a minute you're going to have someone else come, sit next to you, and you're obliged into the usual
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Been waiting long?"
"Not really, just a couple of minutes"
"Getting cold now, isn't it?"
"Mmmm, yeah"
"Going shopping?"
"No..."
"Nearly Christmas, I need to do my Christmas shopping"
"Yeah"
Then you get another person joining in, aqnd it starts all over again, you know
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Been waiting long?"
"Only a few minutes"
"Starting to feel like Winter, isn't it?"
"Mmmm, yeah"
"I'm going to get all my shopping done, you started?"
"No..."
"Not much time left now"
And then it's usually person with the dog. They're the ones I hate most.
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Hi"
"Been waiting long"
"Yeah, quite a while now"
"Never on time, are they?"
"And always when it's cold"
"Mmmm, yeah"
"It's nearly Christmas"
"Yes, I know"
"What a lovely dog"
"Isn't she?"
"For sure"
And then, after ten or so minutes of the most life-destroying conversation thinkable, the bus finally comes, and everyone gets on, and sits as far away from anyone else as physically possible. You don't get this kind of thing at train stations... what the hell is it about bus stops that forces endless and inane conversation?
