Hypothetical Punishment Question
for all you "criminals need to be given rewards, not punished!!!" young boys and girls out there.
If the government came up with a new scheme whereby criminals, although not killed, were heavily beaten within a few inches of their lives, depending on the seriousness of the crime, and then extensive research proved that crime rates had fallen by absolutely millions, would you accept it as good law?
They televise it. "Join us after the break for the 11 o'clock beatings." And the money they get from the sponsors goes to the minorest of healthcare for the criminals after their severe beating. Like they get their bones clicked back into position or something. They are banned from ever entering hospitals or clinics with complaints about their injuries, so they don't cost us any money.
And before you reply with those "Punishment is WRONG. END OF." posts, would you put your (laughable) morals in priority over logic and actual results? If you opposed it in a referendum or something, on the grounds that it was morally wrong, and then your mum went out and got her face kicked, wouldn't you kick yourself and think 'if only I wasn't trying to prove how lovely and fair I was all the time. Mum probably wouldn't have that massive scar on her face and the nasty man who did it to her would be having his face smashed in.
