CCTV
in my workplace there's talk of installing CCTV cameras in all the working areas as a result of a spate of recent thefts. Things like birthday collections going missing from desk drawers, my line manager had some computer games stolen and suchlike.
Everyone seems cheerfully willing to submit to this and be filmed 24/7 in the interests of catching/stopping the thieves but I have an almost irrational negative response to it. I would not be content to be filmed all day long whether it catches thieves or not.
Can anyone empathise with this? my colleagues are all using the 'i'm doing nothing wrong so I don't mind being filmed' argument. Yet they don't accept my response which is ask if they would be content to have cameras put in their homes, on the basis that they wouldn't be doing anything wrong there either. I know it's not 100% the same but the principle is.
CCTV just seems almost wantonly intrusive even when it's out in the streets. I absolutely hate it and I'm not even entirely sure why. Perhaps I've got some orwellian issues?
