Waterboarding
Waterboarding. What a word. I know I'm, like, years late on the debate over this subject, but this article:
http://www.smallwarsjournal.com/blog/2007/10/waterboarding-is-torture-perio/
got me thinking on it again. 'Waterboarding;' it sounds quite nice really. Some kind of fun in the sun, perhaps. Or at least not something completely awful.
The article above has a couple of passages where reading a description of the process caused a mild panic to rise in my throat.
The power of language innit? Steven Poole has an interesting book out on other examples of this, but this is the most powerful one for me.
What's your favourite form of state approved torture, readers?
