Has reading books become alien to a generation?
ok, poorly worded question, but i couldnt think best of how to sum it up.
Do you think television has destroyed the need for many people to read books?
Apparently children in some schools now get screens to write on and read, rather than books.
Do authors get the credit and repect they deserve as opposed to someone who has been on big brother?
I was thinking about this in a bit of detail earlier.
Books encourage independent thought, they give the reader a chance to form opinions and think things through at their own pace.
They encourage people to take an interest in language and how it is structured, which in turn helps people communicate better, which should in turn make them less angry. The only language you learn from television generally is americanisms and marketing speak.
It also requires imagination and visual creativity, whereas television does all this for you.
Bascially television is a totally passive activity, which surely doesnt relax or educate children, merely nullifies their brains into a numb stare of nothingness.
Reading teaches patience as well, whearas television encourages the opposite.
Also, libraries are free! Thats an amazing thing, so much knowledge for free.
I have no young members of my family so i dont really know how much young people read....
I have no idea what the point of this post is, i just love books and i think people should read more.
Any thoughts?
