The Pride of Marquette
I'm writing a story called The Pride of Marquette. It is about a fisherman in Michigan in the 1930s watching a ghostly boat sink on Lake Superior in a manner that rather differs from the Saulte Ste. Marie News's account of things. He lives in too remote a place to tell the authorities what really happened and on his way home finds the carcass of a bear surrounded by a circle of blood that mysteriously disappears in the night when he falls into an enchanted sleep.
The next morning a beautiful woman floats onto the shore in posh clothes, presumably the survivor of the wreck. She is wearing a white floaty dress and has a bear skin wrapped around her, it's roaring face perched on her head and its paws hanging limply around her breasts and a circle of blood surrounding her in the water. Because the fisherman is a weird old man he doesn't dare tell anyone of his grizzly (pun not intended) discovery and pushes her back into the icy October waters of the lake and seeks solace in his Bible.
The End.
