The Likely To Cause an Argument thread: 'Creativity is just about sex'
http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20070622-000002.xml
Look specifically at point 7.
This slightly dumbed-down article argues what I have believed for a long time. That deep down the urge to create is all just an attempt to be sexually attractive.
Most importantly, the article suggests that creativity is an attempt BY MEN to be sexually attractive. Would this explain the under-representation of women in 'the music business' (and by extension every other walk of life)?
Is it not that there is 'institutional' sexism in music - but rather that women are, in general, just less interested in being creative because creative expression is basically evolved to appeal to their ability to choose a mate/mates?
Or is this wrong? is art and music an appeal to the glory of god? is it communing with our spirituality? Is it an attempt to answer the big questions about life? Or are these all motivations we ascribe to it after the fact to kid ourselves that we're not, subconsciously, just showing off to the hot girls in the front row?
DiScuss.
