That crushing moment you found out Father Christmas wasn't real
Remember it? I know I do
It was in Year Four at school, so probably about 8 years old, and we were sat around cutting out something or other. It must've been about January time, as we were talking about what we'd got for christmas. I made the mistake of beginning my account of the festivities with "Father Christmas got me...". A girl called Samantha Chase started mocking me, and I tried to defend the existence of Saint Nick by reasoning that my present was "in red wrapping paper, and my mum hates the colour red so she would've never have chosen it"
I felt such a fool :(
A girl I know believed in him until she was 15. FIFTEEN. When I enquired how logic hadn't taken over by that point, she reasoned that her mum must've been 'really good at covering it up'
There's also a particularly nice story about two of my mates who happen to be twins (Dan and Tom, fact fans). Apparently they were sat in the same RE lesson in Year Seven, and a kid called Simon Cross said something stupid, to which the teacher (Mr Mayo) replied "oh Simon, you probably still even think Father Christmas is real!". The class fell about laughing, except for Dan and Tom, who shot each other a panicked look from across the classroom. They then had to wait until the end of the day to finally accept the truth on a long and miserable walk home together
