A good and bad TV show of music tonight: 21st Century Bach
GOOD: "J S Bach's Toccata and fugue in F (BWV 540), is played on the 1737 Müller organ at Haarlem in The Netherlands by York Minster's organist, John Scott Whiteley. It is one of the longest of Bach's free organ compositions, and Bach signs the letters of his name in the pedal notes of this toccata, following it with an Italian double fugue of the utmost majesty."
VERY BAD: "The programme employs a variety of unusual filming techniques to give a dramatic interpretation of the music. These include using miniature cameras on the inside of the organ to show the mechanical works, and aerial shots from small helium-filled balloons. The titles are by Damien Hirst."
Why can't we just watch some pianist playing it and not have all the crap.
