Japan and Whales
In the news quite a bit this one...
Surely this is the most baffling eco-crime being comitted today, no? Whilst other environmental issues do offer some grey area for discussion/debate, i sincerely believe this bad boy does not. Japan claims its quota of 860 whales a season is entirely based on the need for scientific study, which doesn't really add up. Furthermore, this quota is made up of 850 minke and 10 fin whales - the scientific rationale behind that ratio being...?
Also, the vast majority of the meat ends up in restaurants and shops, which again doesn't really fill me with confidence that their scientific justification is not made-up.
Thoughts?
