Sexism
you know sexism, the social scourge of the sixties
seen as singularly responsible for a plethora of ills? well the reaction,
after starting well, has moved from the sublime to the ridiculous
through self-defensive actions of the string-vested interests.
seriously though, reading the 'kicking ppl in the shins' thread, and katekamakaze's reaction to indieany's suggestion he would kick her got me thinking.
now i'm against violence in all forms myself, but have noticed a certain hypocrisy in our morals as a society.
if women are equal, as they surely should be, then why do they receive special treatment and dispensations when it comes to violent treatment. Is it really any worse to kick a woman in the shins than to kick a man if they were both equally deserving? Why do women stil feel a need to be a special case, in a modern and equal world?
If anyone has read this far, i would be interested to hear your comments on why this particular piece of sexism is still considered the norm.
(just to clarify - i don't go around punching women in the face, but then i don't go around punching men either :D )
