Is it completely common view that Jade Goody was racist and very out of order towards Shilpa in the house?
Because, while I'm not defending her (well guessed), I've been thinking about it, and how trivial the entire matter is.
First of all, you look at EXACTLY what was said: 'She's called Shilpa Poppadom or something.' Ok, so that's a slight dig, but if you look at the actual words she's said, its basically not much at all.
I hate doing this, but if you switched Shilpa for an Italian, and Jade had said: 'She's called _ _ _ _ Pizza or something', would it have caused as much stir? Maybe its just me being insensitive, but I don't find what she said particularly offensive at all. There are much much worse things Jade could've said. But she didn't. She called her an Indian food.
Ok, so you answer: 'Its the context it was used. They were bullying her.' Wrong. Someone always gets bullied in the Big Brother house. For EXAMPLE. Take Shabaz. He was a homosexual Asian (or 'Paki Poof'. Stop crying. Its what he calls himself.). Now, EVERYONE in the house bullied him to a point where you were feeling really sorry for him. He might have provoked it, but Jade and Shilpa provoked eachother in a similar way.
Why didn't anyone care? Because no-one called him a 'poppadom'?
Basically, Jade is a fool who doesn't know what is and isn't acceptable in society to say. She is certainly not worthy of all the hatred for what she said, at all.
When she came out of the house, and she was talking about what she'd said, when mentioning the 'insult', some guy in the audience goes: 'STOP SAYING IT!'. Good God. What the fuck?
Its like a snowball.
It started off, they were bullying her (or, as its usually called in BB, talking about her behind her back). No-one cared. Jade said 'Shilpa Poppadom', and all hell broke loose.
People more than likely were LOOKING for something to raise a race issue on.
