ProleThoughts: reflectiosn on Observer Music Monthly
It really is the periodical version of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers - a music magazine for people 'not really' into music. - Yesterday's sorry farrago was based around the TOP 25 GIG EVER! as decided by erm, Amy Winehouse and Bono. ONe of the BEST GIGS EVER was in a basement of Beth Ditto's house - isn't it funny - until a few months ago this 'gig' would have just been some flatualent drunken jam at a mate's house, but now it is one of the BEST GIS EVER. Funny flavour of the month that, isn't it? Thety also amnaged to tick to 'ethnic' box as well, just in case Howard Jacobson wrote in next week saying "Now we all don't like white imperialist Artic Monkeys type Nato agression you know". Also some person fropm Ksaabian listed a 1997 gig by Oasis as one of THE BEST GIG EVER. Yu had to 'be' there, 'I guess'.
So, how can such a comotose wank-during a-heart-attack of a magazine assume that purely subjective 'well I was there' viewpoints of a well research demographic of 'safe' stars somehow denote the BEST GIGS EVER? Well?
Also special mention to: wacky assistant editor's choice being a Richy era Manic's gig. I could write better with my toes after losing half my brain to a rubber bullet.
Truly shocking and one reason why, although we are entering an electrying period in music technology and new media distribution, we are entering a dark age of creativity and ideas, both in terms of the scribe and the composer, if such things like this exist and are allowed to reach such a wide audience.
